Two Highlands Ranch High School football players signed up for Division I programs Wednesday.
For two Highlands Ranch athletes, the start of Early Signing Day 2018 was a sense of relief.
“It feels great,” said Austin Johnson. “I’m glad the process is complete and I can move on to the next chapter of my life.”
Johnson and longtime teammate Drake Nugent both signed national letters of intent to play football for Division I programs on Wednesday afternoon in the school’s auditorium.
Nugent, who acted as a center and defensive end for the Falcons, signed on to play at Stanford. Johnson, who played guard and defensive tackle, goes to the University of Colorado.
“(The recruitment process) was a bit overwhelming at times. It’s really picked up this whole year,” Nugent said. “It was a big load off my back to be accepted.”
The college-bound duo helped lead Highlands Ranch to playoff appearances in each of the past three years.
They will now play as opponents of the Pac-12 Conference on opposite sides of the field.
