Here’s how the HSFA 100 performed from September 1-4, 2022

For the second straight week, defending champions Mater Dei are enjoying Saturday after beating a top-25 team on the road on Friday night.

The Monarchs, No. 1 in high school football America 300, backed by NFL Play Football, beat No. 17 Corona Centennial 43-20. The wins follow the team’s 24-21 win over No. 13 Bishop Gorman a week ago.

Junior quarterback Elijah Brown, who has never lost a game (20-0) as a starting varsity quarterback, threw three touchdown passes. All went to Marcus Brown.

No. 3 Buford is a perfect 3-0 in his promotion to Class 7A in Georgia. The Wolves beat No. 20 North Cobb Friday night 21-14.

Judge Haynes, a recruit from Alabama, scored all three touchdowns for Buford. The game winner came with less than a minute to play.

It’s tough for an East Coast team to win in the Pacific time zone, but No. 5 Bergen Catholic (New Jersey) showed it was possible with a solid 28-7 win over No. 21 Saguaro in Scottsdale, Arizona. Both teams won state titles in their respective states last year.

BC kicked off 2022 with back-to-back wins over two state champions. Last week, the Crusaders defeated North Carolina 4A Champion Cardinal Gibbons. They are now on a 15 game winning streak.

No. 12 Good Counsel (Maryland) is another Top 25 to pick up a big win on the road Friday night. The Falcons beat No. 40 Catholic (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) 38-35. Ryan Capriotti scored a game-winning field goal late in the game.
