“This is our greatest hope” blasted Chef Paul Nagan. “…to become the place everyone talks about, everyone has a story about.”
narrative, Cherry Creek’s newest restaurant and housed in the recently opened Jacquard Hotel, opened Wednesday night with the ambition to become a neighborhood gathering place for good food and casual conversation. And the cuisine, which is described as “Contemporary American”, corresponds to this vision.
“The concept of the menu is definitely contemporary American… traditional American with a contemporary twist,” Nagan explained. “That’s our idea behind many dishes, to make them comfortable dishes but to make them as high quality as possible… Take our burger for example, we source the burger from Lombardi Brothers, a local meat company that actually makes dry-aged feed roast for us and then grinds it.”
Nagan has been cooking in Vail, Colorado since attending Johnson & Wales University. He has since cooked in kitchens across the state, including Range restaurant the Renaissance Hotel, where he specialized in American West cuisine, and now he brings that experience to The Jacquard. With breakfast dishes like smoked Salmon Avocado Toast with homemade pesto and local bread with evening dishes like Prawns and Grits with andouille sausage, bacon, peas and Tabasco butter – this chef mixes his unique technique with American classics – and does it seasonally.
“We will change our menu three times a year,” Nagan explained. “Incorporating seasonal changes into the products and all that, but we want to keep the familiarity. If someone loves the burger or loves the short rib…we’re definitely going to have core items that I don’t think are going to change a lot so that we keep that neighborhood, everyday vibe in the restaurant.”
The Jacquard is just one of many new rooms that have been added to Cherry Creek’s roster in recent years. From new award-winning restaurants to cafes, bars, boutique hotels and retail outlets, the area once known primarily for its malls and art galleries is seemingly emerging as one of Denver’s trendiest neighborhoods. Narrative aside, the Jacquard offers a rooftop bar and rooftop pool — two destinations Denver residents flock to in the summer months. And while LoDo, RiNo, and LoHi have endless dining and drinking options, these new additions make us think Cherry Creek could be the next nightlife hotspot.
The Narrative is open for breakfast Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 11am and Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 11am. It is open daily from 11am to 2pm for lunch and 5pm to dinner, with happy hour daily from 2pm to 6pm. You can browse the menu and discover more details here.
