New Gates on Concourse C to be opened – Denver International Airport – *

After a decade of crippling mismanagement by the administration of Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, there is finally a bright spot at Denver’s International Airport.

Hancock, Denver International Airport (DEN) and Southwest Airlines will celebrate the completion of 16 new gates on Concourse C as part of the Gate Expansion Program. At 530,000 square feet, this is the largest space commissioned by DEN since the opening of the Westin Hotel and Transit Center in 2015.

The new gates are leased by Southwest Airlines and will allow the airline to continue to grow at DEN, providing more flight options for our passengers. Southwest is expected to begin operating out of the new gates by early June.

Passengers into DIA continued to face crippling delays as ground operations and overcrowded gates mean planes with passengers waiting to deplane often wait an hour on the ground. Inbound flights also stay airborne, using longer than necessary routes or circling high over the metro area.

A scandal-ridden rebuild of DIA’s main terminal has frustrated passengers for a half-decade now, with cost overruns and mismanagement hampering operations.

The Points Guy reports “officials hope the new technology will eventually smooth out and expedite the security screening process, the rollout is creating some issues for travelers as the current advanced technology (AT) machines are replaced. Staff from The Points Guy have reported delays at airports across the U.S., including San Diego International Airport, Denver International Airport, Charlotte Douglas International Airport, and Boston Logan Airport.”
