Armin Strom Gravity Equal Force Kari Voutilainen Easter Editions

Armin Strom is an independent clock manufacturing based in Biel-Bienne, Switzerland, and Kari Voutilainen is an independent company located about an hour’s drive away in Môtiers.

The two Swiss watch brands have collaborated on several occasions in the past, and for their latest limited edition, two special Gravity Equal Force watches were made exclusively for Oster Jewelers of Cherry Creek, Colorado. I previously reviewed a Gravity Equal Force watch hereand master watchmaker Jordan Ficklin conducted a technical review of a Gravity Equal Force x Kari Voutilainen Professional clocks here.

For this collaboration, Jeremy Oster from Oster Jewelers collaborated with Claude Greisler from Armin Strom and Kari Voutilainen to design the special color scheme and unique guilloche work pattern seen here. “We developed the pattern together with Kari. The guilloche is made by hand in his workshop,” says Greisler.

With these limited editions, you not only get Voutilainen’s famous guilloche work, but also an in-house Armin Strom movement and case, as well as high quality hand finishing.

Speaking to Greisler about the production process and specifically how the edges of components like bridges are finished, he said: “After pre-beveling, we use files to adjust the bevel (corners and edges that cannot be made on a machine) and on At the end we polish by hand.”

A man shot a teenager eight times because of sexual orientation

Today, a Kansas City man was convicted in federal court of committing a hate offense by shooting a local teen eight times in an attempted killing motivated by sexual orientation.

Malachi Robinson (26), pleaded guilty in front of U.S. District Judge Brian C. Wimes, to one count each of violating Matthew Shepard Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. Robinson, who has been in federal detention since he has been indicted by the federal grand jury on Aug. 10, 20,21, will remain there until his sentencing hearing.

Robinson pleaded guilty today to the fact that he shot the victim (identified in court records as M.S.) approximately eight times with a Taurus 9mm gun in an attempt kill him due to his sexual orientation. This resulted in life-threatening injuries.

Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke, of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, stated that the defendant was being held responsible for violently trying to end someone’s life because of his sexual orientation. “This attempted assassination is a reminder to all that hate crimes against the LGBTQI+ population are real and must always be dealt with. Violent acts targeting people based on their sexual orientation are heinous crimes that have no place in our country. Justice Department will continue using civil rights laws to pursue justice in the case of survivors and others who were impacted by bias-motivated crimes.

“Violence against others, motivated by hatred of their sexual orientation, is unacceptable,” said U.S. Attorney Teresa Moore of the Western District of Missouri. “Such a cruel disregard for the life a teenage victim, who was fatally wounded in a failed attempt at murder, must be challenged.” The commitment to protect civil rights of all citizens must also be challenged. The Justice Department will take action to hold those who violate these rights accountable when they are threatened.”

Assistant Director Luis Quesada, of the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division, stated that hate crimes and the violence in this case are especially cruel because victims are targeted because of their identity. “The FBI places hate crimes at the top of its civil rights program. Everyone deserves to be free to express their feelings without fear. We will work with law enforcement partners to bring justice for all communities that have been affected by hate.”

Today’s plea agreement states that Robinson and M.S. met at the Kansas City Public Library May 29th, 2019. talked briefly over Facebook Messenger before leaving the library. Robinson then walked with M.S. Robinson then walked with M.S. in the Swope park area, claiming he was looking for a place to have sex. Robinson wrote to his girlfriend separately at the same moment, threatening to shoot him because of his sexual orientation. Robinson and M.S. Robinson and M.S. eventually entered a nearby wooded area, where Robinson pulled out his pistol to fire repeatedly at M.S.

Robinson ran through the woods towards his apartment building and continued to try to avoid detection or arrest. Robinson told others later that day that he had shot M.S. Because of his sexual orientation.

Robinson is subject under federal statutes to a sentence of at least life in federal prison, without parole. The maximum statutory sentence is set by Congress. This information is provided for informational purposes only. The sentencing of the defendant will depend on the advisory sentencing guidelines as well as other statutory factors. After the U.S. conducts a presentence inquiry, a sentencing hearing is scheduled. Probation Office.

{FAITH IN AMERICAN SYSTEM DROPS|American losing Belief in System

January 6th committee pre-Hutchinson hearings were not changing minds

West Long Branch, NJ – Only a little more than 1 in 3 Americans currently believe our system of government is sound, a view that has declined significantly over the past few years. The Monmouth (“Mon-muth”) University Poll finds that the House select committee to investigate January 6 has not changed many minds about what happened that day, in part because few Republicans are following the hearings. In fact, Republicans are less inclined than they were a year ago to describe the violence at the U.S. Capitol as either a riot or an insurrection. In the poll – conducted before Cassidy Hutchinson’s public testimony on June 28 – 4 in 10 Americans said former President Donald Trump was directly responsible for the incident.
Just 36% of the public describes the American system of government as basically sound. This number has declined from 55% in February 2020 and from 44% in 2021, a few weeks after the Jan. 6 attack. Just over four decades ago, 62% said the American system was sound. At the same time, the number of Americans who say our system of government is not at all sound has jumped from 10% in 1980 to 22% in 2021 and 36% in the current poll. The recent decline of faith in the American system has come at varying rates among different partisan groups. Among Republicans, the sense that our system of government is sound plummeted from 71% in early 2020 to 41% shortly after President Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021, and has held fairly steady since then. The decline among independents has been more gradual – from 58% sound in 2020, to 46% in 2021, and 34% in the current poll. Democrats actually saw a brief increase in faith that the American system is sound from 2020 (34%) to 2021 (45%), but that has now dropped back to 36%.

“There’s more than just partisanship at work in declining faith in the institutional framework of American democracy. Yes, electoral outcomes play a role. Yes, the current economic crisis plays a role. But attacks on our fundamental democratic processes – and the lack of universal condemnation of those attacks by political leaders from both sides of the aisle – have taken a toll,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.
Nearly two-thirds (65%) of the public say it is appropriate to describe the incident at the U.S. Capitol as a riot, and half (50%) say it is appropriate to describe it as an insurrection. Both of these numbers, though, are down from a year ago (by 7 points for riot and by 6 points for insurrection). These negative views of Jan. 6 have held relatively steady among Democrats and independents, but have slipped significantly among Republicans. Last year, a clear majority (62%) of Republicans called the incident a riot. Now, less than half (45%) do. Similarly, a third (33%) of Republicans in June 2021 said it was appropriate to describe the incident as an insurrection, but only 13% say the same today.
By comparison, the number of Americans who say it is appropriate to describe the U.S. Capitol incident as a legitimate protest has remained stable over the past year (34% now compared with 33% in June 2021). However, the number of Republicans who see this incident as a legitimate protest has actually risen by 14 points to 61%, at the same time this view has declined among independents (down 6 points to 33%) and remained stable among Democrats (14%).
“Some Republicans who were initially appalled have now recast the events of Jan. 6 in a less negative light. It’s not clear the House committee hearings are having any impact in correcting this view, in large part because Republicans simply aren’t watching,” said Murray.
While nearly half (45%) of Democrats say they have been following the House select committee hearings a lot, just 16% of independents and 10% of Republicans say the same. In fact, a majority (52%) of Republicans and 4 in 10 independents (41%) say they have not been following the hearings at all. [Note: the poll was conducted before the Cassidy Hutchinson testimony on June 28.]
When it comes to conducting a fair investigation, 34% of the public trusts the House committee a lot, 22% trust it a little, and 41% do not trust it at all. The vast majority of Republicans do not have any trust in the committee regardless of whether they have been following the hearings (65%) or not (78%).
Overall, just 6% of all Americans say the recent committee hearings have changed their mind about what happened at the Capitol or who was responsible for Jan. 6. Among Republicans who have been following the hearings, just 1 in 10 – representing 5% of all Republicans – say they have changed their opinion about the incident. In a follow-up question, some of these Republicans say that they learned about the pressure Trump was exerting or that election fraud claims were spurious. However, others claim they have “learned” that “police officers were not killed in that protest,” or that “the Democrats were highly involved as well as the F.B.I.”
Currently, 29% of Americans believe Biden won the presidential election only because of voter fraud. In prior polls since November 2020, that number held steady at 32%. The 3-point difference in the current poll is just as likely to be the product of sampling variance as it is any real chipping away at this unsupported belief.
“The committee is preaching to the choir right now. There is little evidence these hearings are having any direct impact on the Republican base. The committee’s best hope is that the mounting evidence makes it untenable for key GOP leaders to continue to stay silent. So far, though, it seems fear of political retribution from Trump voters continues to be the overriding concern,” said Murray.
Prior to the June 28 hearing, over 4 in 10 (42%) Americans saw Trump as being directly responsible for the U.S. Capitol incident, 25% said he encouraged those involved but was not directly responsible for their actions, and 30% said he did nothing wrong regarding Jan. 6. While 83% of Democrats thought Trump was directly responsible, 59% of Republicans said he did nothing wrong. Two-thirds (66%) of the public say that members of Congress who assisted the attack’s planners should be removed from office. However, only 36% of Republicans feel that way.
The Monmouth University Poll was conducted by telephone from June 23 to 27, 2022 with 978 adults in the United States. The question results in this release have a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points. The poll was conducted by the Monmouth University Polling Institute in West Long Branch, NJ.

Alchemy wants to treat you to coffee, tacos, and beer when you pick up a new bike

Photos: Matt Miller

It’s not hard to screw up a new bike. When most of us follow the status of our new multi-thousand dollar package at FedEx or UPS, we don’t think how exciting it will be to tune the suspension or adjust the stack and saddle height. We’re thinking about how quickly we can slam it together and get the new bike out on the trails.

What potentially lies in this process is disappointment with a new bike due to a minor setup error. Maybe the fit isn’t right, maybe the rebound is too fast or the compression is too high. Alchemy Bikesnow based in Golden, Colorado wants to prevent that and treat you to good beer and tacos while they help you dial in your new bike.

The boutique brand, which deals in high-end carbon fiber and titanium bikes, recently relocated its headquarters from Cherry Creek, Colorado to Golden, giving them closer proximity to mountain bike trails (and mountainous road riding) and a great Location for coffee and breakfast or beer, cocktails and dinner. The new shop is called the Alchemy Ride Experience Center, or AREC for short.

The store is located in a place off I-70 and Morrison Road next to the origin hotelWith Nomad Tacos embedded in their first floor, and About Yonder Brewing, Viceand Start coffee. I happen to be in the area and find myself here quite often, either before a trip to the highlands for coffee and breakfast (Launch is an apt name) or for beer and food afterwards.

Alchemy Bikes and Simbol PR invited a group of media people to check out the new digs and the new bikes.

The new showroom is modern and welcoming. Beautiful Alchemy carbon and titanium bikes make up most of the decor, and there are leather sofas to curl up with a magazine and coffee or enjoy an Over Yonder beer at the bar.

The core of the program is as follows: Riders who purchase a new Alchemy bike will receive a night’s accommodation at the Origin Hotel, test rides, a bike fit, help with bike and suspension setup, a gift card to Over Yonder Brewery, and a burrito and Coffee Start Coffee and a swag bag with a shirt, hat, mug, glass and more. Tacos aren’t included, but it would be foolish not to try Nomad’s menu with a free night at Origin. The program is called DARE to Ride Golden.

Then of course there are many opportunities to test the bike before you take it home. There are a handful of trail networks within driving distance, including Mathews Winters and Dakota Ridge, green mountainand Apex Park all of which vary in style and difficulty.

I took the Arktos 150 for a short ride up and down the Argos Trail at Apex. It was my first time riding an Alchemy and the Sine suspension felt efficient and responsive, and the bike picked up speed quickly on the descents.

When the bike and rider are ready to ride, riders have the option to ride it home or have it shipped fully assembled Kitzuma. Shipping options also include FedEx and Beeline.

It’s a pretty decent program and unique in the direct-to-consumer bike space. The professional support when dialing in a new bike is great and the other treats are the icing on the cake. Alchemy plans to launch the program in mid to late July 2022.

Sidford acquires standalone office building in Cherry Creek

A Denver company has purchased a 180,000-square-foot office building on the edge of the booming Cherry Creek North shopping district to be completely modernized and made available to one or more occupants.

Sidford Capital LLC bought 100 Garfield from Midland States Bank for $4.4 million. Midland will continue to occupy 5,300 sf of office space on the fourth floor and approximately 4,300 sf of retail space on the first floor through early next year.

Andy Wolf

“We have a unique opportunity to offer the market a self-contained building with signage for potential occupants of the entire building, medical tenants, financial institutions or traditional office occupiers,” said Andy Wolf, senior vice president of Sidford Capital.

The building has parking—a rare commodity in Cherry Creek—as well as signage and access to Colorado Boulevard via the East First Avenue corridor. The parking ratio is 1.93:1,000, and Wolf noted that the city is considering removing the two-hour on-street parking limit, which would be an added convenience for renters.

Amid a thriving new development in Cherry Creek, “This is a very good size building for someone who has a great sign, has access, and is on the First Avenue corridor at the east entrance to Cherry Creek,” commented Wolf.

Sidford intends to offer 100 Garfield at prices in the low to mid range of $30 per sf gross. New build office rentals in Cherry Creek can range from the high $30s to the high $50s.

While Sidford Capital intends to put the building up for rent, if the right owner comes along, we would “at least explore that possibility,” Wolf said.

The building was built in 1982 and renovated in 2007.

Matt Vandal from Sognare Partners advised on both sides of the transaction. MidFirst Bank funded the acquisition.

Midland States Bank acquired the property through its purchase of Heartland Bank in late 2014.
